Set beneath the towering peaks of the Matterhorn, also known as Monte Cervino, Cervinia is Italy’s most celebrated international ski resort, located just across the border from Zermatt in Switzerland. It is one of the highest and most snow-sure resorts in the Alps, with consistent snow coverage in the winter months and a notably long ski season, from October to May.
There is a fantastic variety of world-renowned slopes, with a staggering 360 km network of groomed pistes stretching over the Matterhorn to the famous resort of Zermatt, as well as to Valtournenche. While the area is renowned for its ski touring, off-piste and heli-skiing, beginners and intermediates are also well catered for with an extensive range of wide, easy slopes. Plans are afoot to connect Cervinia to the three valleys of Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna, making this one of the largest ski areas in the world.
La Fenice’s proximity to Zermatt means we have the best of both worlds, with easy access to the slopes on the Swiss side, as well as its well-known restaurants and upmarket shops.
Cervinia itself is a bustling Italian town with a pretty, historical core and an attractive pedestrianised main street, lined with excellent restaurants, cafés and famous boutiques. Given that this is Italy, the food on the mountains is some of the best in the world – and the welcome is always warm.
